School policies

Cancellations

  • Student Cancellations: If a student cancels a lesson, it will be made up at the teacher's discretion.

  • Teacher Cancellations: If the teacher cancels a lesson, it will be made up at a different time, or the student will receive a credit that can be applied to the following month.

  • Students with Fevers or Illness: Students who have had a fever within the last 24 hours should not attend private lessons or group classes. Additionally, if a student appears to be suffering from symptoms of the flu, colds, or other illnesses, the teacher reserves the right not to teach the lesson in person.

  • Zoom Lessons for Makeup: Zoom lessons are offered as an option for makeup lessons, especially when the student was ill and couldn't attend the regular in-person lesson. This allows the student to catch up on missed material and keep the learning process on track.

Practice

  • Students are expected to practice their instrument at least five times a week. Consistent practice is crucial for mastering new skills and reinforcing existing knowledge.

  • We encourage students to set a specific time for practice every day. For example, practicing before dinner can be an effective routine for many students. Having a dedicated practice time helps students make practicing a regular part of their daily activities. When practice becomes a regular habit, students are more likely to progress steadily and achieve their goals.

parent involvement

  • A parent of a student under 10 years old must be present during each lesson. This allows the parent to actively participate in their child's learning process and provides an opportunity to observe and understand the instruction given by the teacher.

  • During the lesson, the parent is expected to take notes. These notes can serve as a reference for both the parent and the student to review what was covered in the lesson. It also helps the parent stay informed about their child's progress and any specific instructions given by the teacher.

  • The parent takes a role as a "teacher at home." They assist with practice sessions, provide guidance, and ensure that the child stays on track in between lessons.

Student recital

  • We organize two recitals annually, providing students with regular chances to showcase their skills and progress. Students are strongly encouraged to attend both recitals. Participating in recitals offers unique benefits that go beyond regular practice sessions.

Instrument

  • Students are expected to have their own instrument that is in good working condition.

  • Some instrument shops offer the option to rent instruments for students who do not have their own or are unable to purchase one immediately. Renting can be a practical solution, especially for beginners who want to try out an instrument before committing to buying one.
